General Notes: A Brief Respite
Apologies for not getting the post up sooner - lot on my plate lately. I’m not immune to these skies I tell you about.. The previous two weeks were a roller coaster of awful in a lot of ways, but this week creates opportunities to catch your breath from all the chaos in the skies in preparation for more chaos in the skies, hints of which will pester this week while you focus on catching your breath for the times ahead.
Mars and Mercury have gotten past The Boneyard (Saturn-South Node-Pluto in Capricorn) and are on their ways to Leo. The Sun is recently in Cancer on his way to oppose The Boneyard, but it’ll be a while before that gets particularly tight. It’s still notable however, as merely being in the sign opposite that nonsense is gonna make it harder for the Sun to do his thing and shine brightly. Cancer isn’t the worst place for the Sun, but it’s not the nicest place for him either—a person with Leo rising and Sun in Cancer is gonna have their Sun in the 12th house—not exactly a stage from which to project. The Boneyard isn’t helping, so get yr solar magics out (If you’re local to NYC and want some dynamite Sun oil made during the grand fire trine in Spring, email me and I’ll hook you up.)
Mercury’s not doing so hot in general. They’re in their retrograde shadow, and when you’ve got a particularly difficult Merc Rx you get a bigger splashback into the shadow period. Expect a certain amount of Mercury Retrograde-style issues this week, though not a ton — delayed transits, miscommunications, dropping your phone in the toilet, etc. Just be careful and triple-check the arrival times so you don’t miss your bus/train/flight etc. Lotta people traveling right now - it’s Summer. You gotta do what you gotta do, and I don’t expect life-ending havoc here.
June 23rd - 24th: Venus opposed Jupiter and square Neptune
This has been a nice weekend all things considered provided you didn’t need to get much work done. I did, so I had some issues. This Venus-Jupiter-Neptune configuration we felt the approach of over the weekend had a lot going for it, but hard work wasn’t part of it. It extends into Monday so expect a lazy day back at the office if you’re a 9-5er. You’re gonna want to daydream about lovers and pleasures instead of getting things done. It’s nice, all things considered, to be able to take at least somewhat of a mental vacation for a while before getting back into the brick. It’s not gonna be a full mental vacation with Venus making a quincunx to Saturn at the same time, the scratchy note of how much there is to deal with preventing the harmonizing you’d expect these planets to do together. And yes, it’s all hard aspects here, but they’re not bad planets (Neptune has his issues but plays pretty well with the other two most of the time). I’d usually say be wary of excessive pleasures and daydreaming, but there’s too much reminding us of the world for that to be too big of a risk. Just don’t do hard drugs or drink heavily until the weekend at the earliest. The crashing waves of Neptune’s station from this past Friday are still out there.
June 26th: Mercury enters Leo
Mercury’s not gonna get too far into Leo before they retrograde back out in a couple weeks. The normally swift-footed messenger deity is moving real slow right about now, taking their own sweet time and really driving the point home wherever you’ve got something in the early degrees of a fixed sign.. Anything around say 0-8 Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, or Aquarius is gonna get woken up by this transit, more so the first couple degrees at least this week, so keep an eye on those planets in your chart for what messages they’re getting. The messages might not be the truth, but they’re certainly worth listening to.
I know modern astrologers say Mercury is in fall in Leo, but I don’t buy that and I haven’t for a long time. Attention needs get met better when they’re communicated. Dramatis personae and dramatic persons benefit from a strong voice. A lion needs his roar. There’s more to Mercury than that though, and Leo is not a sign noted for swiftness or detail-orientation, so it’s not the most natural fit for the analytic Mercury, but it’s certainly not the place of Mercury’s fall.
Mercury has a lot to say about matters of attention and ego needs while in Leo, so pay attention to what comes up for you there while they’re riding the Lion from now until July 19th, half of which will be retrograde.
That’s all for this week! If you found this valuable and would like to learn more about your chart, you can book a reading here.
